The Parco Regionale Terra delle Gravine near Taranto protects 28,000 ha of limestone ravines (gravine) carved through the Murge plateau. The gravine walls have historic Rupestrian churches and abandoned cave granaries now used by lesser kestrel — the colony at Ginosa is one of the largest in the Mediterranean. Peregrine and blue rock thrush breed throughout. The floor of the gravine has evergreen oak.
