The Parco Regionale del Taburno-Camposauro protects the limestone ridge above Benevento rising to 1,394 m. Chamois were reintroduced in 2012 and now number 60+ individuals. Wolf is resident and frequently sighted near Cautano. The flat summit plateau has a grove of ancient yew trees (Taxus baccata) — some 400 years old. The view over the Sannio region of Campania and Molise is magnificent.
