Valsorda, Monte Cucco

The Valsorda plateau (1,200 m) on the flanks of Monte Cucco above Gualdo Tadino is an open limestone grassland renowned for paragliding (the thermals are among the best in central Italy). Wolf pack resident. Golden eagle on the summit ridge. Apennine gentian and wild orchids in May–June. The surrounding beech forest has porcini in September. Dogs off-leash on the plateau.
