The Valli di Comacchio are shallow brackish lagoons covering 130 km² in the Po Delta — the most important inland wetland for wintering waterbirds in Italy. Counts of 100,000+ ducks in January are routine; spoonbills and glossy ibis nest in spring. The dyke paths give access to open water with exceptional light in winter dawn.
