Poggio, Monte Conero Backside
Marche
The inland (western) side of Monte Conero above the village of Poggio is almost entirely free of tourists — the crowds concentrate on the beaches below. The forest of beech and holm oak is excellent for woodpeckers and nightingale in spring. The ridge above gives views to Ancona, the Adriatic and inland to the Apennines. Roe deer are common in the forest margins at dawn and dusk.
