Portonovo, Conero
Marche
Portonovo below Monte Conero is a pebble and sand cove with clear Adriatic water — the Napoleonic Fortino stands directly on the beach. The Conero limestone cliffs above shelter the bay. A Romanesque church (Santa Maria di Portonovo, 11th century) is embedded in the cliff. The lake behind the beach (Lago di Portonovo) is a brackish lagoon with flamingo. Dogs welcome outside peak hours.
