Parco dei Nebrodi
Sicily
The largest of Sicily's regional parks stretches along the island's north coast massif, its forests holding the last Sicilian wolves (extinct by the 1930s, though the name persists in local memory) and today the endemic San Fratello horse and Nebrodi black pig, both bred semi-wild in the park's oak woods. Lago Biviere di Cesarò, Sicily's highest natural lake, sits within the park at 1,278 m, ringed by beech forest.
