The Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi is a gypsum karst park 10 km from the centre of Bologna — white selenite outcrops, sinkholes and the Grotte di Re Tiberio cave system (3 km long). Eagle owl nests in the gypsum outcrops. Roe deer and wild boar are common. The park is on a ridge with views over the Bologna plain. The Farneto archaeological site inside the park has Bronze Age finds.
