Parco Naturale dell'Aveto

Liguria

The Parco dell'Aveto climbs from the mild Tigullio coast into a distinctly continental Apennine landscape of ancient beech and silver fir forest, a stark contrast to the palm-lined seafronts just a short drive away. The park protects one of the last strongholds of the Apennine wolf in Liguria, along with the rare peat bog habitats around Prato Mollo. Snow can linger here well into spring, unusual for a region better known for its beaches.
