Monti Aurunci — Monte Altino
Lazio
The Parco Naturale Regionale dei Monti Aurunci protects the limestone range between Frosinone and the Tyrrhenian coast. Neanderthal remains were found in the Grotta Guattari near San Felice Circeo at the base of the range (discovered 1939 — a Neanderthal skull in perfect condition). Golden eagle nests on the highest crags. The summit gives views over the Pontine Islands and the Gulf of Gaeta.
