Egnazia (Gnathia) has a Messapian acropolis and walls, a Roman forum, basilica, amphitheatre and stretches of the paved Via Traiana, plus early-Christian basilicas — all spread over a headland with the Adriatic lapping the edge of the site and the trulli country just inland.
