Parco Naturale Alta Valle Pesio e Tanaro

The upper Pesio valley cuts into the Ligurian Alps southwest of Cuneo, its dense beech and silver fir forest sheltering the Certosa di Pesio, a Carthusian monastery founded in 1173. Karst caves riddle the limestone, including some of the deepest in Piedmont, and chamois are common on the higher slopes. The valley marks a transition zone between Alpine and Mediterranean flora.
