Parco Naturale Adamello

On the Lombardy flank of the Adamello — the largest glacier in the Italian Alps — this park runs from the larch forests above Ponte di Legno up to the ice itself, much of it a WWI "white war" front line still scattered with trenches and huts at over 3,000 m. Ibex and golden eagle share the high terrain with the glacier, which, like most Alpine ice, has retreated markedly over the past century.
