Palude di Frattarolo, Manfredonia

The Palude di Frattarolo near Manfredonia is a freshwater marsh behind the Gargano coast. Purple gallinule (Porphyrio porphyrio) has been breeding here since 2005 — the only regular breeding site in mainland Italy. Black-winged stilt, marsh harrier and little bittern all breed. The reserve is a 5-minute drive from Manfredonia. Dogs on leash on the perimeter path.
