Palude di Colfiorito
Umbria
Sitting on a karst plain over 700 metres up, this marsh is a rare highland wetland, protected since the 1970s and fed by underground springs typical of the surrounding limestone. Marsh harriers, herons, and migrating waterfowl use the reeds, and a network of boardwalks and hides keeps foot traffic away from breeding areas. The plain around the marsh is also known for its high-altitude lentil cultivation.
