Padule di Bientina (Bosco di Tanali)
Tuscany
The Lago di Bientina was drained in the 19th century, but a core of it survives as the Bosco di Tanali reserve: reedbeds, willow carr, flooded meadow and a restored open pool, on the migration route between the Apuane and the sea. Flat embankment paths, boardwalks and hides make an easy circuit rich in herons, harriers and, in winter, ducks and cranes.
