Orvieto — Duomo e Pozzo di San Patrizio

Orvieto's cathedral facade, banded in black and white stone with elaborate mosaics, stands not far from the Pozzo di San Patrizio, a 16th-century double-helix well designed so mules could descend and ascend on separate spiral ramps without meeting. Both sit on the flat plateau top, distinct from the base-of-cliff walk around the Rupe.
