Orrido di Sant'Anna
Piedmont
Just inland from Cannobio on Lake Maggiore, the Cannobino river has carved a narrow granite gorge barely wide enough to touch both walls at once. A humpbacked medieval bridge crosses the ravine beside the tiny chapel of Sant'Anna, and swimmers drop into deep, startlingly clear pools below. It's one of the most photographed micro-landscapes on the western shore of the lake.
