Orrido di Botri

Tuscany

This WWF nature reserve gorge cuts through Apennine limestone above Bagni di Lucca, with sections requiring cables and ladders. Peregrine falcons and wallcreepers nest on the cliffs, and the gorge floor stays cool and dripping even in August. Access is seasonal and permit-limited to protect the fragile ecosystem.
