The Selvaggio Blu ('Wild Blue') is considered Italy's hardest trekking route — a 45 km coastal traverse above the Ogliastra sea-cliffs requiring rope work, abseil and scrambling. The coast below is accessible only by boat and has no roads within 15 km. Griffon vulture, peregrine falcon and Audouin's gull nest on the cliffs. The route passes abandoned charcoal villages last inhabited in the 1960s.
