Lago Salso near Foggia in the Tavoliere plain is a restored wetland — formerly drained agricultural land reconverted to marsh and reed bed. Thousands of wintering duck, coot and wading birds. Greater flamingo and spoonbill feeding. Short-eared owl hunting at dusk. The Tavoliere plain (ancient Roman wheat supplier) is one of the flattest landscapes in Italy. Dogs on leash on the boardwalk.
