Macchiagrande protects a patch of the old "selva" — holm oak, ash and elm — with damp grasslands, a pond and a stretch of dune, run by the WWF with flat nature trails and hides. Roe deer, porcupines, hoopoes and, on the pond, herons and terrapins.
