Oasi di Alviano

Umbria

Formed behind a dam on the Tiber, this shallow wetland has become one of central Italy's most important stopover sites for wintering common cranes, alongside herons, egrets, and ducks in large numbers. Observation hides positioned around the reserve let birdwatchers approach without disturbing the flocks. Reed beds and flooded meadows recreate habitat once common along the historic Tiber floodplain.
