Oasi del Simeto — the river mouth

Where the Simeto reaches the sea, brackish lagoons ("i pantani"), a black-sand beach and dune systems form the best birding site on Sicily's east coast — flamingos, avocets, glossy ibis, ospreys on passage — with Etna smoking behind. Flat tracks and boardwalks cross it from Vaccarizzo.
