Noto was rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake in pure baroque style using golden local tufa — the entire city is UNESCO-listed. The walk above the town onto the Hyblaean plateau passes orange and almond groves, ancient dry-stone walls and isolated masserie. Noto is the most purely baroque city in the world.
