Lago Biviere (1,278 m) is the only natural lake in Sicily, situated on the Nebrodi plateau in the national park. Surrounded by beech forest, it hosts wintering pochards, teals and tufted ducks. The Nebrodi mountains form a completely different landscape from the arid south of Sicily — green, cool and little-visited.
