The Posillipo hill above the western bay of Naples has been a patrician retreat since Roman times. Virgil is buried in a Roman-era tomb at the foot of the hill (Parco Vergiliano). The cliff walk along Via Posillipo above the sea offers the classic Naples view — Vesuvius, Capri, the Phlegrean coast and the bay.
