Murgia Timone Archaeological Walk

The Murgia Timone plateau across the Gravina ravine from Matera is an open-air archaeological museum of the human occupation from 30,000 BC to the Byzantine period. Walking the plateau reveals lithic scatters, rock-cut cisterns, Bronze Age pit villages and Byzantine cave churches. The view of Matera sassi across the gorge is the most famous.
