The Gravina di Ginosa is a deep canyon carved by the Ginosa river through the Murgia limestone plateau — sister landscape to Matera's famous sassi. Cave churches with Byzantine frescoes cut into the ravine walls, abandoned cave dwellings and golden eagles nesting on the cliff faces make it one of the most evocative landscapes in the south.
