Cascata delle Grotte, Monti della Laga
Marche
The Rio Castellano on the Marche side of the Monti della Laga (Gran Sasso National Park) has the highest waterfall chain in the central Apennines — 8 cascades totalling 200 m of height. The Cascata delle Grotte (main drop 45 m) is the centrepiece. The Laga plateau above is a sandstone anomaly — unlike the surrounding limestone mountains, it is sandstone and has high-altitude peat bogs.
