Monteluco di Spoleto

The "sacro bosco" of Monteluco has been a protected holy grove since a Roman "lex spoletina" forbade cutting it; hermits including St Francis lived here. A path from Spoleto crosses the 80 m Ponte delle Torri over the Tessino gorge, then climbs through the dark ilex wood to a Franciscan convent and a belvedere over the city.
