Monte Volturino, Appennino Lucano
Basilicata
Monte Volturino (1,836 m) above Viggiano in Basilicata overlooks one of Italy's largest oil fields (the Tempa Rossa project in the Val d'Agri). The contrast between the industrial oil infrastructure below and the pristine chamois habitat above is striking. The summit gives panoramic views from the Pollino to the Cilento. Wolf pack territory in the surrounding forest.
