Monte Vettore dominates the Sibillini national park and the border of Umbria and Marche. The northeast ridge approach via the Lago di Pilato (the only high-altitude lake in the Apennines south of the Alps, home to a unique species of crustacean) is one of Central Italy's great mountain days.
