Monte Ventasso (1,727 m) above Castelnovo ne' Monti is the second-highest summit in the Reggiano Apennines — the name means 'wind mountain'. The summit gives a 360° panorama. Italian wolf pack confirmed. Golden eagle. The approach from Collagna passes through old beech with black woodpecker. The Pietra di Bismantova below (the isolated sandstone mesa Dante mentions in Purgatorio) is visible to the north. Dogs off-leash.
