Sentiero del Terminillo
Lazio
Long nicknamed 'la montagna di Roma' for its role as the capital's closest ski destination, this massif above Rieti climbs from dense beech forest to open, almost alpine meadows near its highest points, well over 2,000 metres. Summer brings hikers and paragliders to the same slopes that fill with skiers in winter. The panorama from the ridge takes in a wide sweep of the central Apennines, with the Gran Sasso visible on clear days.
