Monte Terminillo (2,216 m) is Rome's closest mountain — 80 km from the city. In summer the ski resort is empty and the mountain paths are quiet. The walk from the Pian de Valli cable car terminus climbs to the north ridge above the timber line with views of Gran Sasso, the Sibillini and, on clear days, Rome and the sea.
