Monte Subasio

Umbria

Monte Subasio (1,290 m) rises above Assisi and was the meditation ground of St Francis. The plateau opens into vast meadows of wildflowers (especially orchids in May) with herds of horses and falconry birds overhead. The view down to the Umbrian plain and Assisi's basilica is one of Italy's great panoramas.
