Monte Sirino e Lago Sirino
Basilicata
This small lake occupies a glacial cirque below Monte Sirino, whose summit ridge marks the watershed between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian sides of the region. Beech forest crowds the shoreline, giving way higher up to open pasture where shepherds still bring flocks in summer. The lake and surrounding woods form part of a proposed nature reserve valued for their relatively untouched character.
