Monte Sirino — Papa Summit
Basilicata
Monte Sirino (2,005 m) and its satellite Monte Papa (1,986 m) form the highest massif in western Basilicata. The approach from Lagonegro crosses Lucanian fir (Abies alba) forest — a Calabrian endemic now endangered — before reaching open rocky ridges. Wolves are resident and frequently heard. On clear days the Tyrrhenian Sea, Gulf of Policastro and Calabrian mountains are all visible.
