Monte San Simeone (1,505 m) above Verzegnis in the Carnia has a cave on its flanks with Palaeolithic deposits — reindeer bones and stone tools from 15,000 years ago when the area was Arctic tundra. Golden eagle on the summit. The Carnia forests below have brown bear crossing regularly from Slovenia. The summit gives views into Austria and Slovenia simultaneously. Dogs off-leash.
