Monte Saccarello

At 2,200 metres, Monte Saccarello is the highest point in Liguria despite the region's reputation as a coastal strip, its rolling grassy summit feeling closer to the high Alps than the palm-lined Riviera far below. A large bronze statue of Christ the Redeemer, installed in 1901, crowns the peak, visible for miles across the surrounding ridges that mark the border with France and Piedmont. Alpine choughs and occasional golden eagles patrol the open summit plateau.
