The Capanna Margherita on Punta Gnifetti (4,554 m) is the highest mountain hut in the world and was opened in 1893 by Queen Margherita of Savoy who slept there. The approach via Alagna and the Rifugio Gnifetti glacier is a two-day commitment requiring crampon experience. The sunrise from 4,554 m is incomparable.
