Monte Rosa — Alagna Approach
Piedmont
The Valsesia approach to Monte Rosa (4,634 m — second highest in the Alps) from Alagna gives the most dramatic view of the Monte Rosa east face — 2,000 m of hanging glaciers above the valley. The walk to the Rifugio Pastore (2,180 m) is demanding but the glacial scenery is extraordinary. Walser-German speaking community of Alagna — ancient wooden houses from the 16th century. Ibex on the upper slopes.
