The east face of Monte Rosa (4,634 m) above Alagna Valsesia is the most spectacular mountain wall in the Alps — a 2,000 m wall of ice and granite with the Macugnaga and Valsesia glaciers descending from four separate summits. Alagna is a Walser village (Swiss German-speaking since the 13th century). The Punta Indren cable car reaches 3,260 m. Ibex on the Cimalegna ridge. Dogs off-leash below the glacier.
