Monte Raparo (1,764 m) above Lagonegro in the southern Basilicata Apennines is the highest peak of the Lagonegrese massif. The beech forest on the upper slopes is old-growth with black woodpecker. Wild cat and wolf are both resident. The summit view extends south to the Pollino and the Calabria coast. The approach through the Sinni valley passes ancient chestnut groves.
