Monte Pennino, Umbria-Marche
Umbria
Monte Pennino (1,571 m) on the Umbria-Marche border near Nocera Umbra has the finest mountain meadows in the Umbrian Apennines — chamomile, gentian and various orchids carpet the summit grasslands in June. Wolf dens have been confirmed in the beech forest below. Roe deer are common and chamois from the Gran Sasso occasionally wander this far northwest. The ridge gives a panorama to the Adriatic.
