Monte Penna (1,283 m) above the Franciscan sanctuary of La Verna in the Foreste Casentinesi is a limestone outcrop where St Francis received the stigmata in 1224. The summit gives a simultaneous view of the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian on very clear days. Peregrine on the rock towers. Wolf and golden eagle in the forest below. The La Verna sanctuary below has been a pilgrimage site since 1224. Dogs off-leash.
