Monte Penna is a great fin of serpentine rock rising above the beech forests of the upper Aveto. A path from Prato della Cipolla climbs to the base, then an easy hands-on scramble gains the 1,735 m summit and its wide view over the Ligurian and Emilian Apennine. Golden eagles nest on the cliffs.
