Monte Ortigara, Altopiano di Asiago

The June 1917 battle for the Ortigara cost tens of thousands of lives for a few metres of rock. From Piazzale Lozze a marked route climbs past the Italian column ("Per non dimenticare"), the Austrian cross, tunnels, craters and the Cippo Austriaco, through dwarf pine and bilberry with a view over the Valsugana.
