Monte Nero — Isonzo Front Walk

Monte Nero (Krn in Slovenian, 2,244 m) on the Friuli-Slovenia border was the site of 11 battles of the Isonzo in WWI — a ridge where Italy and Austria-Hungary fought for years above the Soča valley. The summit is reached from the Italian side through old trenches and fortifications preserved in the limestone. The Soča/Isonzo valley below is emerald green.
